Square # 2

Today I could not resist to sew up another square. I actually went  a little out of my comfort zone and added  a little color to it. I feel pretty confident about it.

How do you like the color combination?

First sewing of the year and more

Today I did my first sewing of the year. It felt so good to finally sew something again .Recovery has been long and boring, and I know I'm still supposed to take it easy, but I think it should be OK to sew twice a week for now. I really like what my "sister" is making out of her scrapes, that I had to copy her, lol. It is a great project and the instructions are super easy.

So, here is my first scrap square

Not bad at all
I am so exited about it and can not wait to make more of these.

So besides sewing, I have been teaching the little guy some pre-school stuff at home. He is very exited about it and I hope he will be ready for "real" school soon, but for now I am enjoying him at home. Here are a few pictures of him

It is good to be back
Take care for now

You asked for it...

You asked for it.....and I deliver.

Lets backtrack just a little:
A few days ago I have gotten some "Happy Mail" with gorgeous fabric in it. It was a gift from my best friend. She blogged about it, saying/writing that it would be nice to show the things I would make from them. How could I not?!.
Sooo, this is what I made today.

Front

Back
I made a pillow using this tutorial. I guess after seeing all the wonderful pillows you had made recently, it was time for me to make some too. I am in love with the "Atlanta Star" quilt you made for me, and now thanks to you,  I will have some beautiful pillows to go with it. I still need to make one more like this, and then I think I will make some smaller ones and some other things.
You will just have to wait and see, lol.

Have a glimpse

This is my NEW sewing machine, lol.
(sure wish I had a new one, mine start acting up a little. What sewing machine do you recommend?)

I still need to ad some letter applique and then decide what I' m making out of it.  Should I make a pillow or a Wall hanging out of it ( it measures about 20x20)?! What do you like better?
Did you have a nice weekend? I sure did.

Finished

Thanks to you, I did decided to go for the casserole holder . Like you said it would be to pretty to be hidden away.
So this is how I made the back
And when I was finished with it, I sandwiched everything together and thought I should quilt it like you did with the Atlanta Star quilt, or sooo I thought.
Here is how I drew my lines on it

Pretty don't you think? Well I had to try out my free motion sewing at first on a piece of scrap. Thinking it would not be sooooo hard to do, lol. Well take a look for yourself what I ended up with

This is calling for a personal lesson when you come to visit, lol
Thank goodness I tried on a piece of scrap first, because otherwise it would have been ruined. So my mind went like this: Oh crap, What now? Then I remembered on your blog, that you had drawn some diagonal lines on one of your projects before. This is when it came to me that it be safer for me to do so too. So I drew on some lines like this
Sorry for that bad picture
After that all I had to do is was to quilt it and ad some binding to it. Here is the finished product

Now I need to somehow remove the lines. Any suggestion on how to remove them? Did I mention that I did use a Mark-be-gone marker?

Hexagon makings

This is what I ended up making yesterday

It's a piece of  linen fabric with some hexagons sewn to it. I am still debating if I should ad some Insul-batting and a back so it could be used for a casserole holder or leave it like this and just have it hanging on the oven handle. What do you thing?

*When I first made the small hexagons, I thought I would be stitching them together so the would look like flowers. But when I started to sew them together they did not turn out like I thought they should. I guess it looked easier then it really is. Making them was really easy, but  sewing them together is a hole different chapter, lol.
Any suggestions?

Pillow in progress

Over the weekend I was able to squeeze some time in for a little sewing. I still had some scraps left from the previous mug rugs and table runner I showed you, and did not want to waste them. So I decided to randomly sew them together, kind a like a mosaic. The pillow still looks a little flat because I did not have enough fill for it, but I will take care of it in a little while after I get back from running some errands. The only I wish I had done differently, is to sew it together different, so that I would be able to add a binding. But like they say: You learn ass you go along (or something like that, lol).

Hope you had a great weekend.

I could not resist

         After finishing these

I could not resist in making a  table runner with the left over fabric.

It started out looking like this

And ended up looking like that

And here is what the back looks like

I like this table runner much better then my "Seeing Stars" one, I think it's because off the size. This one is much slimmer in fits better on my table. And also you could switch it around and use the
other side instead. Who knew?, two for the price off one.
What are you making right now?

Mug Rugs

The nice thing about mug rugs is, that they come in all different sizes. You can design them anyway you want. I do not think that you can do anything wrong with it.I just love them, and I don't think you can have enough off them.
So today I was able to squeeze some time in to sew me up some mug rugs.

I randomly quilted the mug rugs together and added the  binding to it. I really don't like how I sewed the binding on and  I think the rest off them I will do by hand.

They are really fun to make and best off all the are super easy.If you have not made some yet, you should make some. Very usefull.

Is it a quilt or a blanket?

I finished up Nadia's quilt. And I am really pleased how it turned out. I went to 3 different stores to find the backing for it but could not find a blue I/she liked. So i settled for a off white/cream fleece backing. I think it is the perfect fit for it.
My question for you now is, is it considered a blanket or a quilt? I'm not sure what to call it because I sewed it together different this time

What do think?
Also I was able to go to the post office today and when I came home I had the perfect cup off
 German coffee

and a piece off Lebkuchen(gingerbread cookie). After all it is perfect for weather looking like this

I hope you had a pleasant Friday,
I sure did ( even if the weather is not nice).

WIP take two

Nadia's quilt top is finished now, but now I do not know how to do the back, she said she likes furry/soft stuff, but I do not know about that. I thought maybe fleece or something like that.
What do you think?
It turned out bigger then I thought lol

I also was able to sew a small pillow case for her. That was my first one. I even added a pleaded border on it. I think it measures 20x20 without the plead.Turned out pretty good.

I will do some shopping tomorrow, email me what you need ( Michael's has military discount tomorrow). And please don't be shy (I know you lol).

WIP (work in progress)

Today I finally precut all of Nadia's fabric. Also a while ago she had asked  if it would be possible for her name to be on the quilt somehow. After thinking it through this is what I came up with
It took quiet a while to cut out, arrange, and  press everything( I  can not believe it take so long for a short name like this). I think it turned out great. All I need to do is to sew around the letters so the will not fall off ( now that would be something LOL).

After laying everything out, I numbered my rows and put everything up

until tomorrow for round 2 of WIP.After all that cutting I am ready for a break today, well at least that is, until the kids get home.
You know what I'm saying?!
Don't you?!
I hope you had a nice day.

Pretty little things

Here are a few things I made  this afternoon. It was a cold day, the kids were busy doing projects for school and playing. So what better time then that to sew some things.

Karin, do you remember this fabric?

Something I made for Salem ( hard to find something teenage boy's like)
I also followed your suggestion about using Velcro instead.

How was your Saturday?

Contemplating

Nadia's birthday is coming up, I think a handmade quilt (cuddle size) from me to her would be nice.
After thinking it through this is what I came up with:

My very own design

Finding the right design and fabric was harder then I expected.
Her taste has changed so much ( she is turning in a young adult right in front of me).
At least her colors have not changed jet.

So I got fabrics with prints/themes/colors she likes (hopefully)

Now all I have to do is pre-wash, cut and sew.
I hope I finish it before her birthday.

Take care

Sweet treat

Nesreen and Sahra where doing something  in the kitchen friday afternoon.
They surprised me with these yummy muffins:

And Sami could not wait to get his fingers on them. They where really good. They tasted better then mine LOL. What a great sweet treat.

While they where making the treats, I was sewing a fabric basket. I got the idea from Ayumi's website at http://ayumills.blogspot.com. I made a little change to it. I stitched the corners together for more support.

How was your weekend?

Experimenting

Today after a great breakfast, I decided I should make a iPod touch case. Remember I told you Sahra's broke : - (  not to long ago? Well I thought  how about making a case with a  fabric necklace attached to it. After thinking things through I started by preparing my fabric

Then I started to sew everything together kind a like this:

Next it was time to assemble everything:

I did not think it would be that hard to get everything together LOL

So it ended up looking like this

Next I made the strap

And when that was done, it ended up looking like this

Here is the end result

(not to bad I must say)

What have I learned:
Well I sure made a few minor mistakes. Which is not bad for me since this is my first try. I definitely will make a few changes to it. But I think all in all  I have the basic concept down.
It was fun trying to come up with something what would be great to use, so the iPod will not end up looking like this:

(We had endless tears over it.)

Let me know what you think (Improvements, etc.)
Take care for now.
